Renting Rant

So is it just me? But I thought that when I hired a real estate person to rent my apartment, that they did the background/financial/employment background.  But they don't.  They took the information down and then when I asked, they gave me the information.  The last thing I wanted to do is verify this information. 

What did I pay for? Just them to show the place and set up the lease? 

But I met with the future tenant and he seems great, so I am very optimistic that this thing will work out.
